Fifth Annual Amateur Bodyboarding Competition
at Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark this Sunday!
Annual event takes place Sunday, August 28th at 9 a.m.
GALVESTON ISLAND, Texas – Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark hosts its fifth annual Boogie Bahn Classic amateur bodyboarding competition this Sunday, August 28th. On-site registration begins at 8 a.m. and the competition begins at 9 a.m. Riders of all ages are invited to compete on the park’s Boogie Bahn3 surfing attraction. (The park is open for regular operations from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
“Our amateur competition gives athletes an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and conquer our wave,” said Ron Sutula, general manager of Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark. “Our season pass holders and guests are among the best riders in the country and we expect that the competition will be exciting for riders and spectators alike.”
The top three winners in each of seven divisions – junior, drop knee, masters (male and female divisions), pro, male and female— will win awards and accolades; including an annual Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark season pass to each first place winner.
Surfers interested in entering the Boogie Bahn Classic can pick up an entry form at the waterpark or download an entry form online at www.schlitterbahn.net/gal/BoogieBahnComp . There is a $30 per person entry fee. There is no additional charge for waterpark guests to watch the event. (Waterpark admission is required to enter the waterpark.)
Schlitterbahn’s Boogie Bahn works by pumping 50,000 gallons of water per minute up a padded incline, creating a continuous wave which can be adjusted to various skill levels.
Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark is the world’s first convertible, climate-controlled indoor / outdoor waterpark and features more than 33 family attractions including three interconnected rivers, two uphill water coasters.
Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark’s is open weekends and Labor Day for the remainder of the 2011 summer season through September 18. Park admission tickets are $43.99 for general all-day admission and $34.99 for children ages, 3 – 11 and seniors 55 years or older. Afternoon admission tickets (after 3pm) are available for $33.99 for general admission and $26.99 for children and seniors. Two-day tickets are $63.99 for general admission and $49.99 for children and seniors. Taxes are not included in the ticket prices. Admission tickets are sold online for an additional discount.
