Schlitterbahn Kansas City Waterpark may be closed for the 2011 season, but we continue to make progress on the construction of the exciting new attractions we've been building all summer long. Rest assured, these custom, one-of-a-kind new rides will be ready for you to enjoy when the park opens for the 2012 season--no doubt about it!

You've already seem images of the new Loopy Luge mat slide, Der Bahn tube slide and King Kaw Rapids River rides in action in previous Schlitterblog posts.

Today we are testing the Boogie Bahn surf ride and the Might Mo fast-flow tube chute. Here are a few videos to show you these rides on their first day of testing. There are no riders yet, but we wanted to tease you a bit on this warm Kansas City day when it sure would be nice to be in the water! Remember, this is just beginning of the testing process and adjustments will be made over the weeks to come.

King Kaw Sneak Preview in Kansas City

This mammoth, custom-designed attraction has been under construction all summer long and will officially open as a new attraction for the 2012 season. Here is a look at King Kaw in action!

Fifth Annual Amateur Bodyboarding Competition

at Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark this Sunday!

Annual event takes place Sunday, August 28^th at 9 a.m.

GALVESTON ISLAND, Texas – Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark hosts its fifth annual Boogie Bahn Classic amateur bodyboarding competition this Sunday, August 28th. On-site registration begins at 8 a.m. and the competition begins at 9 a.m. Riders of all ages are invited to compete on the park’s Boogie Bahn³surfing attraction. (The park is open for regular operations from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.)

“Our amateur competition gives athletes an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and conquer our wave,” said Ron Sutula, general manager of Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark. “Our season pass holders and guests are among the best riders in the country and we expect that the competition will be exciting for riders and spectators alike.”

The top three winners in each of seven divisions – junior, drop knee, masters (male and female divisions), pro, male and female— will win awards and accolades; including an annual Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark season pass to each first place winner.

Surfers interested in entering the Boogie Bahn Classic can pick up an entry form at the waterpark or download an entry form online at www.schlitterbahn.net/gal/BoogieBahnComp . There is a $30 per person entry fee. There is no additional charge for waterpark guests to watch the event. (Waterpark admission is required to enter the waterpark.)

Schlitterbahn’s Boogie Bahn works by pumping 50,000 gallons of water per minute up a padded incline, creating a continuous wave which can be adjusted to various skill levels.

Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark is the world’s first convertible, climate-controlled indoor / outdoor waterpark and features more than 33 family attractions including three interconnected rivers, two uphill water coasters.

Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark’s is open weekends and Labor Day for the remainder of the 2011 summer season through September 18. Park admission tickets are $43.99 for general all-day admission and $34.99 for children ages, 3 – 11 and seniors 55 years or older. Afternoon admission tickets (after 3pm) are available for $33.99 for general admission and $26.99 for children and seniors. Two-day tickets are $63.99 for general admission and $49.99 for children and seniors. Taxes are not included in the ticket prices. Admission tickets are sold online for an additional discount.

Lots of great updates to share today:

The Falls
The much anticipate new ride is now open for guest previews. What does this mean? The Falls, The World's Longest Waterpark Ride, will be open sporadically over the next several days until the official grand opening. During this time, the ride may temporarily shut down while our park team continues to make adjustments making The Falls an even better ride. Also during this preview time, the ride will most likely not open with the park at 10am, but rather later in the afternoon.

We will announce soon the official Grand Opening along with Season Pass Holder ride dates and times.

New Season Pass Parking Lot
Season Passholders may now take advantage of a new season pass benefit. For quick access to the new attractions, season pass holders have their own parking lot, Tubenback Parking Lot off of Lincoln Street located behind the Blastenhoff area of the park. Simply show your 2011 season pass at any of the check points (including New Braunfels Police Check Points on the weekends) to gain access to this new lot.
GPS users: 370 W. Lincoln Street.

New TreeHauses are ready to rent for 2011 & 2012
WOW are these cool! Our newest lodging is ready for guests. Closer Each Day In Kansas City

It's a beautiful, hot summer here at Schlitterbahn Kansas City Waterpark. As temperatures continue to average 100 degrees each day, our guests and fans are cooling off in our unique attractions each day, including the world's longest tidal wave river, an uphill water coaster, tube chutes, rapids, water slides, areas for kids and more.

We thank all of you for your enthusiasm and interest as we continue the construction of our new attractions. Although we do not have an opening date to share at this time, we are working to open the new rides as soon as we can.

We opened the new Blitz Falls tube chute the first week of July, which now completes the circuit of our Transportainment River System. Additional new attractions will open when they are ready, some sooner than others.

We appreciate your patience and we know you are going to love the new experiences when we introduce them. For now, here are a few pictures for you.

Notice the intricate decorative rock sculpted on the wall of the Mighty Mo tube chute. This fast-flow tube chute is a secret passage and shortcut back to Kristal River.

The giant blue Archimedes screw on the left will elevate water to the top of the hill for King Kaw Rapids River. This thing is HUGE! On the right is the giant Aqua Veyer (conveyor) that will lift guests up to the beginning of this 3,000-foot rapids river adventure.

That's a sneak peek for now. As you can see, we are getting closer. Once again, we do not have an exact opening date to share, but we will open the new rides as soon as we can, some sooner than others.

New Exclusive Season Pass Benefits Announced For Schlitterbahn Kansas City Waterpark

Schlitterbahn Kansas City Waterpark thanks you for being a loyal guest. We hope you are enjoying your summer at the park, and we appreciate your willingness to grow along with us as we continue to expand Schlitterbahn Kansas City Waterpark.

Last Fall we announced a list of new attractions for summer 2011 and the construction team is working furiously each day to complete these new attractions. Unfortunately, the construction team experienced delays. We all hoped the new rides would be open by now and we apologize for any inconvienance this may have caused.

As a way to say thank you for your patience and understanding, we would like to enhance your experience this summer. We would like to provide 2011 season pass holders with a few new additional perks. Starting Friday, July 15, current 2011 season pass holders receive these exciting new benefits:

• Early Ride Time (ERT)—Every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, July 15-September 5, 2011, season pass holders receive early ride time on all park attractions, 9–10 a.m. (10–11 a.m. when the park opens at 11 a.m.)

• Free Fountain Drinks During ERT—All season pass holders receive free fountain drinks during the ERT sessions. You can even fill your souvenir drink bottle! Free drinks are distributed to 2011 season pass holders and guests at White Water Grill, 9–10 a.m. (10–11 a.m. when the park opens at 11 a.m.)

• Early Entry to the Park—When you participate in ERT, you may enter the park at 9 a.m. to claim your space for the day before the park opens to the public. (Friday-Monday only; 10 a.m. when the park opens at 11 a.m.)

• Bring-A-Friend to ERT—2011 season pass holders participating in ERT are permitted to bring guests along with them. Your guests simply arrive with you and purchase admission tickets before entering the park.

• Expanded Bring-A-Friend for Half Price Offer—You received six Bring-A-Friend For Half Price offers in your season pass coupon book. These coupons are labeled as valid in April, May, June and September only, but we are expanding the use of this coupon to any day in July and August as well.

• Save Up To 30% Off 2012 Renewal Season Passes—2011 season pass holders can take advantage of an exclusive extreme discount on 2012 renewal season passes when they go on sale in August. This special offer is valid through January 31, 2012 only.

The addition of this attraction to our lineup completes the Transportainment River System circuit. You can now float from one end of the park to the other and back without ever leaving the water—no walking!

New Ride Opens at Schlitterbahn Kansas City Waterpark

Yeee! Hah! The first of the many new attractions slated to open this summer at Schlitterbahn Kansas City Waterpark has arrived. Blitz Falls tube chute opened just before noon today, much to the joy of the guests at the park.

Blitz Falls is an Aqua Veyer (conveyor) that elevates riders up to a slow-flow tube chute. Blitz Falls connects Kristal River to Torrent Beach.

Our Transportainment River System formerly allowed you to travel from one end of the park to the other without ever leaving the water, then walk back. Blitz Falls tube chute completes the Transportainment circuit so you can float to one end of the park and all the way back without ever leaving the water--no walking!

Arrr! The ACE Beach Bash in Galveston was a Mighty Blast!

We had a Schlitterblast with all the matey’s of the ACE crew on Monday at Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark for the close of this year’s SchlitterCon.

The American Coaster Enthusiast first made the voyage last weekend to Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort for the incredible SchlitterCon main event.

Then, they sailed to Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark to discover the NEW Shipwreck Harbor Wave Lagoon!

The fun-filled day started off early with registration and breakfast.

The crew was a bit serious so early in the morning….

…but the sweet breakfast…

…and delicious breakfast pizza (YUM!!)…

…AND, of course, the SchlitterBOOTY…

…brought out the joyful, inner child of the ol’ swashbucklers!

The ACE crews’ journey continued with an exclusive exploration of the waterpark before it opened to the local settlers.

In an effort to keep the pirates happy, the SchlitterCrew prepared a mouth-watering feast.

Who knew palm trees were edible?!

MMM!! Fresh, grilled shrimp and grilled fruit!

With the assortment of grilled veggies and Brazilian beef steak, no one wanted to leave the island!

(Impressive, huh! Each of our Schlitterbahn locations is proud to have a culinary captain on its crew! That is why group caterings at the parks are so popular. If you dream it, they will cook it!)

We were able to captures some of the ACE crew in their native environment.

As always, the ACE crew members were a joy to have on our beach. (The never make us walk the plank!)

We're Going to Schlitterbahn!!

World’s Largest Swimming Lesson at Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark

Today, we helped lots of families learn about water safety by participating in the World’s Largest Swimming Lessons.

The event is lead by the World Waterpark Association. This year, over 900 host facilities in 19 countries all over the world participated in promote drowning prevention through education.

Tragically, drowning is the second leading cause of deaths in the U.S. for children ages 1-14. Safety is the #1 priority at Schlitterbahn, and we appreciate the opportunity to help families learn how to be safe around water.

Proudly, we partnered with the Galveston Island Beach Patrol. Both, Schlitterbahn and the Beach Patrol’s lifeguards led the lessons.

Lessons for children ages 6 and up took place in our NEW Shipwreck Harbor Wave Lagoon!

Ages 10 years and older, focused on actual swimming techniques and what to do when in distress. They did great!

Our younger waterpark fans, ages 11 onths to 5 years old, had lessons in the Blastenhoff Hot Tub. (Blow bubbles!!)

It was important to both Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark and the Galveston Island Beach Patrol to make this a community event. We proudly donated hundreds of ticket to local children’s organizations, including The Children’s Center, St. Vincent’s House, Nia Cultural, and a special foster care group. We love our island community!!

All of our participants not only enjoyed a great swimming lesson, but they also are playing in the park for the rest of the day!

We have had a blast! We hope you and your family will join us next year for The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson.

Schlitterbahn New Braunfels Construction Update

I'm excited to share that we are almost there.... construction of the largest expansion in more than 15 years is almost complete at Schlitterbahn New Braunfels Waterpark.

The New Kids' area and the giant new heated pool are already complete and open. The Falls, the world's longest waterpark ride and the Deluge whirlpool river are almost ready to go.

Big Day At Schlitterbahn Kansas City

Today is a BIG day at Schlitterbahn Kansas City Waterpark for more than one reason.

First of all, we begin daily operation today! The park is now open daily through August 21, then weekends through Labor Day. Hurry and visit the park soon to save $5 off Season Passes--this offer ends May 31. Military Appreciation Days also run through May 31--card carrying members of the military receive a 50% discount off General Admission tickets at the park on these days. Lots of other great early season offers too--check out the Tickets page at schlitterbahn.com.

Today is also a big day because we are topping off our new waterslide tower. It looks like a space ship has landed!

We are adding six new attractions for the 2011 season. Although the new attractions are not in operation just yet, they are scheduled to open sometime this summer. We don't have an exact opening date to share with you yet, but we'll keep you posted!

Schlitterbahn Waterparks participates in World’s Largest Swim Lesson

Schlitterbahn Waterparks are host locations for the world record breaking largest simultaneous swimming lesson on June 14^th, 2011.

All four of the Schlitterbahn locations will be participating in the world’s largest swimming lesson in order to help promote awareness about drowning prevention. Swimming lessons will take place at hundreds of locations around the world simultaneously in an attempt to break the Guinness world record. Participants in the swim lesson will help promote the importance of teaching children to swim at a young age to prevent drowning.

Are you ready to learn about water safety, be apart of a Guinness World Record Attempt, AND play at an award winning park??!

All Schlitterbahn Waterpark locations will be selling discounted waterpark tickets to participants in the world’s largest swimming lesson. Participants can purchase tickets by visiting the website http://www.schlitterbahn.com/wlsl. The swimming lesson will take place at 10 am, participants should arrive at the park by 9:15 am. Once the swim lesson is over, everyone is free to play in the park for the remainder of the day!

By signing up for the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson participants will not only help to raise awareness for water safety, but will also be able to spend the day at Schlitterbahn for the one time price of $29.99 per person. The admission also includes a special souvenir cup with one free refill. This special event will not only help families learn important water safety, but it will also allow them to enjoy this entertainment package at a 42% savings.

Schlitterbahn loves to help local charities and non-profit organizations through the Kinderbahn program as well. Local charities may contact Schlitterbahn’s corporate office as we plan to donate tickets to participate in the world’s largest swimming lesson to a few select organizations.

Construction of the 2011 multi-million dollar expansion at Schlitterbahn Kansas City Waterpark is also moving along well. Here are a few peeks at our progress!

Hundreds of feet of the gigantic rapids river have been poured.

The new slide tower with two head-first mat slides and a totally enclosed tube slide is growing fast!

This giant pump screw will transport water uphill for the rapids river. It's even bigger than the pump screw on our Torrent River attraction!

2011 season introduces the region’s only Boogie Bahn surf ride, three slides, record-breaking rapids river, whitewater tube chute, ride-up Aqua Veyer, additional attractions and guest amenities.

Visitors from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Canada and Mexico visited the new Schlitterbahn Kansas City Waterpark during its first full season of operation in 2010. Wow it is hard to believe that our 2010 summer season is over and our indoor waterpark on Galveston Island (Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark) is now open weekends and holidays for their winter season.

If you haven't been to this waterpark in the winter... don't miss out on all the enclosed summer fun found inside the 70,000 square foot building. There are 12 attractions all inside the hot and toasty oasis including four tube slides, three body slides (including the free fall Rhor slide... way fast and scary), three kids' areas, a huge hot tub with swim-up refreshment bar, and my favorite... the Torrent Tidal Wave River.

So far, we have shared a wonderful day with this great group of amusement park enthusiasts. From exclusive ride time on the Storm Blaster uphill water coaster this morning to a fun lunch together with food, prizes, a presentation and great converstion, it has been an action packed day for all. Schlitterbahn Kansas City's 1st Anniversary!

The new Schlitterbahn Waterpark in Kansas City first opened its doors on July 15, 2009. Last Thursday, July 15, 2010, the park celebrated its first anniversary with special surprises for guests visiting that day!

The first 500 guests received a limited edition Schlitterbahn beach towel, and anniversary cake was served in the afternoon as an extra sweet treat!

In honor of the occasion, the park also introduced new money-saving promotions for guests visiting the park Monday-Thursday for the rest of the season. Visit schlitterbahn.com for details!

Torrent River--You Have To See It To Believe It!

Those of you who have experienced Torrent River at Schlitterbahn Vacation Village Waterpark in Kansas City know...you have to see it to believe it! Even as you approach the park you cannot see Torrent River or many of the other attractions because they are rivers and chutes built into the ground.

Torrent River is the world's longest tidal wave river at 1,800 feet in length! You float in a tube as ocean-sized waves surge through the serpentine waterway. You can't even see most of the river until you are inside of it! It's one of our unique attractions that can only be experienced at Schlitterbahn. Since the adventure is difficult to put into words, here is a peek at what to expect. Enjoy!

Entire Park reopens just one week after a devastating storm

Just one week after a devastating storm swept through the Hill Country, Schlitterbahn New Braunfels has resumed full-park operations with all attractions ready again to welcome vacationing guests.

“I’m so proud of our dedicated team that worked tirelessly around the clock to clean up the entire park in just a few short days,” explained Darren Hill, general manager for Schlitterbahn New Braunfels. “Our greatest challenge now is communicating to our guests that we are fully open and ready to entertain their families. So many of our guests have pictures of the storm firmly planted in their mind and cannot believe that it is possible for us to reopen so quickly.”

A local TV crew covers the opening of the Park's spring-fed attractions

Schlitterbahn’s 75-acre waterpark and resort complex features more than 40 rides and family activities in seven areas, including: three uphill water coasters, nine tube chutes, 17 water slides, the Boogie Bahn bodyboarding ride, a family wave pool, five swimming pools, five hot tubs, seven children's water playgrounds, water and sand volleyball courts, five gift shops and more than 20 refreshment centers.

Thanks to incredible efforts by our local governments, businesses and community volunteers, both the Comal and Guadalupe rivers are expected to be fully operational by June 25th.

• Water recreation is available on the Guadalupe above Canyon Lake as well as below the lake to just above the second crossing.

It's almost time to kick of our first full season of operation! Schlitterbahn Vacation Village Waterpark opens for the season on Friday, May 14, 2010!

We thank you for all of your comments and requests for more information, and we are glad you are as excited as we are! We are putting the park back together after the loooooong winter season. On opening day, you can expect the same great tubing adventure as you experienced at the end of last season with more in store.

Our focus over the winter months has been on another major element of the Schlitterbahn Vacation Village resort--the Riverwalk. We are very close to kicking into high gear on the next major phase of construction, but we can't share the details with you just yet! Hang in there!

Although there is much more to come, Schlitterbahn Vacation Village Waterpark is already a complete waterpark experience for all ages. We are not just a slide park, but a combination of slides, rivers, chutes and beaches that creates a full tubing adventure. Be sure to do it all!

If you want to be a part of the team during the first full season of operation at Kansas City’s newest attraction, there are a variety of postions available. Food and beverage personnel, lifeguards, cashiers, retail assistants, maintenance workers and landscaping crew are just some of the options.

Potential staff members should be at least 16 years of age and able to work throughout the summer months, including weekends and evenings. There is a competitive compensation plan that includes an end of the season bonus program, free park admission, discounts on merchandise, appreciation programs and events, flexible scheduling and more.

Sound Waves Music Festival
May 15 & 20, 2010
Sound Waves is a music festival for beginning, middle school and high school bands, orchestras and jazz ensembles that provides a fun and positive educational experience for all groups. It is a great first contest for young bands and a challenging opportunity for experienced ensembles.

Groups may perform for ratings or comments only from the panel of adjudicators that consists of college music faculty and respected high school and junior high band directors from the Midwest. Bands should register soon--performance times are filling fast!

Nestled in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, this exciting new resort destination includes lodging, retail, restaurants, a conference center and a year-round Transportainment™-based waterpark featuring the award-winning interconnected river technology along with a variety of innovative water attractions. The first phase of this project is scheduled to open the summer of 2012.

Located just minutes west of IH 35 on FM 1431, the initial Schlitterbahn Cedar Park Waterpark build out is a $75 million, 67-acre, year-round entertainment destination that will appeal to vacationing families and business travelers alike. Once complete, the entire project will span more than 95 acres and cost more than $360 million.

“We are pleased to have the opportunity to develop our new upscale waterpark retreat concept right here in Cedar Park,” explained Jeff Henry, principal for the Schlitterbahn Development Group. “Our team has been working on the creation and design of this world-class destination for more than two years and we are excited to be announcing this project today. The Schlitterbahn Boutique™ Hotel and Conference Center is expected to entertain hundreds of thousands of guests per year and will create several thousand jobs, providing an economic boost to the region.

We are just over two weeks away from opening our second annual Christmas event. I can not even begin to tell you of all the changes we've made since last year's event... and even all of the new attractions we've added since our announcement early this fall. For additional updates please become a friend to our Schlitterbahn facebook pages... under Schlitterbahn and Jeffrey Siebert (me). Lots of new photos are going to be updated daily.

Today one of two large chillers arrived on property. These will be used in concert to refrigerate the coolant to 5-degrees before circulating through the skating rink to keep the ice frozen... even during those 80-degree winter days. Did I mention that our rink this year is the largest outdoor ice skating rink in Texas measuring a gigantic 60 x 120 feet in size!

The Skyline of Village West is Changing...

This past weekend was one of the most popular times to visit the Village West area in Kansas City, Kansas. This is the area in Wyandotte County that Schlitterbahn Vacation Village calls home. The Kansas Speedway hosted NASCAR's Price Chopper 400 presented by Kraft this weekend, and thousands of visitors from across the country traveled to see the races.

Even more exciting was the obvious change to the skyline that race goers viewed while in the stands. Guests could clearly see the Storm Blaster uphill water coaster, Bahnzai Pipeline, Wolfpack and Black Knight tube slides!
To many, this was their first view of the new Schlitterbahn in Kansas City. To us, it was a way of saying, "hello, we are here!" to thousands of new faces. Did you see me waving? We hope you enjoyed the race and we look forward to seeing you at the waterpark next summer!

Annual event takes place Saturday, September 19h at 10 a.m.

Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark hosts its fourth annual Boogie Bahn Classic amateur bodyboarding competition this Saturday, September 19. On-site registration begins at 9 a.m. and the competition begins at 10 a.m. Riders of all ages are invited to compete on the park’s Boogie Bahn3 surfing attraction.

“Our amateur competition gives athletes an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and conquer our wave,” said Ron Sutula, general manager of Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark. “Our season pass holders and guests are among the best riders in the country and we expect that the competition will be exciting for riders and spectators alike.”

The top three winners in each of seven divisions – junior, drop knee, masters (male and female divisions), pro, male and female— will win awards and accolades. Over $4,500 worth of prizes are given, including an annual Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark season pass to each first place winner.

Surfers interested in entering the Boogie Bahn Classic can pick up an entry form at the waterpark or download an entry form online at www.schlitterbahn.com/gal . There is a $30 per person entry fee. There is no additional charge for waterpark guests to watch the event. (Waterpark admission is required to enter the waterpark.)

Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark, voted the world’s best indoor Waterpark year after year, is starring in a new Travel Channel special entitled “Extreme Terror Rides 2: Death Defying Drops.”

Join the Travel Channel’s adrenaline-pumping journey on the world’s wettest, fastest and highest thrill rides including four at Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark. The show features the park’s Cliffhanger vertical drop speed slide, Dragon Blaster uphill water coaster, Guada-Loopy enclosed tube slide and the multiple-drop Thunder Tub raft ride.

The show is scheduled to air Wednesday, September 2 at 7 p.m. then again on Thursday, September 3 at 11 p.m.

StrandFest Beach Clean-Up

Sharing some pics and thoughts of the first annual Schlitterbahn Beach StrandFest Beach Clean-Up. About 400 volunteers showed up to clean approximately 6 miles of beach and roadside on South Padre Island's north end. Volunteers were rewarded with a free park ticket for the remainder of the day.

Special thanks to the park's Goodwill Committee for suggesting the beach clean-up idea! Our Goodwill Committee is comprised of seasonal employees and supervisors who suggest ideas, incentives and community outreach programs to management. We are proud of their efforts in making a difference in our community.

Youth groups, civic partners, business volunteers all came together to generate the tremendous turnout...teams of 20-25 each were responsible for a 1/4 mile stretch of roadway or beachfront.

Roadside volunteers restoring the windswept dunes along the roadside to their natural beauty...Pick it Up, Don't Pass It Up!

Just some of the trash picked up by our volunteers...well over 1000 trash bags total...Thanks again to all who made this a success and we will continue this new tradition next year.

AquaQuest, is an adaptation of the MagiQuest game technology brought to life at Schlitterbahn’s unique waterpark experience. Using an AquaGlove, guests can activate various themed water effects, complete whimsical quests and earn points as they navigate through various park attractions while exploring the waterpark.

The Pirate’s Plunder treasure hunt game takes guests on five unique quests in search of the mysterious ruby-red crystal, buried long ago by Red Eye the Pirate, and hidden deep within the adventure. Along the way, treasure hunters encounter surprising water-filled traps and chests filled with gold, as they test their skills and earn their place as a Master Treasure Hunter.

It is with great delight that we opened the new world-class Schlitterbahn Vacation Village Waterpark last week! We would like to offer our sincerest thank you to all who helped us achieve this tremendous milestone in our company’s history.

Schlitterbahn is proud to be a part of the Kansas City, Kansas community. To date, our company has invested more than $178 million dollars in the local area. We would especially like to thank all of those individuals, partners and unions that stand with us in developing this exciting destination, in spite of all of the recent economic challenges.

Sadly, it is disappointing to share that even with all of the good will and positive achievement to date, that we have not been able to please a few members of the local union workforce. We want to make you aware that you may see negative materials or hear negative messages or news about Schlitterbahn that contains misleading information.

To clarify, We’ve spent more than $178 million in our local economy employing local and union workers for construction. Schlitterbahn has also hired more than 300 area residents for seasonal park operation. In fact, less than 1/2 of one percent of this total project investment has been spent on our Texas-based team of waterpark experts and designers that have built waterparks all over the world including our three parks.

All of our construction employees are legal residents of the United States and are paid prevailing wage. To date only private financing and no public money has been used in building the Waterpark.

We told you about the Sneak Peek of select attractions over the last few days...but now it's time for the big picture! Sneak Peek is over and the entire waterpark is now open, including the Storm Blaster uphill water coaster!
There are 11 signature attractions to enjoy today! Since Sneak Peek, we've added Storm Blaster, Kristal River, Raging River and Kristal Beach to the long list of attractions available to park guests. Blitz Falls and Wolfpack will be added to the line up very soon!

Imagine a workplace so fun that you would travel around the world to work there! Each year, Schlitterbahn has hundreds of international students that do just that.

This summer, Schlitterbahn Galveston Island has over 90 students from 12 different countries. Countries of origin include Nigeria, Ghana, Colombia, Vietnam, Bulgaria, Moldova, Russia, China, Malaysia, Taiwan, Ukraine, and Australia.

The international program enriches our team with diversity, and creates a really neat experience for all of our employees.

Recently, a few of our international team members were interviewed by the Galveston County Daily News' food contributor. When asked about what American food they liked, cheeseburgers and chicken tenders were listed as the favorite foods.

A cool job with fun people and easy access to cheeseburgers and chicken tenders?!?...No wonder many international students come back every summer!

The Most Anticipated New Park of 2009 Opens
for a Sneak Peek Beginning Thursday, July 16 at 10 am.
Limited attraction availability at a discounted price offered to give guests the opportunity to play in the new park while finishing touches on additional rides
and attractions near completion.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Be the first to make history and dive in to a thrilling new collection of water fun when the Schlitterbahn Vacation Village Waterpark in Kansas City, Kan., opens for a sneak peek beginning Thursday, July 16. Sneak peek offers limited attraction availability while presenting park guests the opportunity to play in the new park while finishing touches on additional rides and attractions near completion. Once complete, the first phase of the new Waterpark overflows with 13 signature Schlitterbahn attractions encompassing more than 24 slides and chutes.

During this limited sneak peek period, the park’s admission price is significantly discounted from the General Admission (ages 12 & older) and Child/Senior Admission (ages 3-11 and 55 & older) prices ($32.99 and $24.99 plus tax, respectively) when all park attractions become available.

Sneak Peek Attractions Include:

Bahnzai Pipeline – Climb to the top of a 42-foot-tall tower and take an open-air tube ride down a twisted path of water wrath…BAHN-style.

Black Knight – Plunge in a tube down a dark and warped fully-enclosed coiled slide.

Henry's Hideout Hot Tub Bar – Unwind in a giant hot tub that incorporates a swim-up refreshment bar and in-water seating that creates the perfect place to take a break from all the action.

Kinderhaven Kids’ Area - Splash and play in an area designed especially for families with smaller children. This shallow water playground includes ten mini-slides and is separated from the rest of the "big kid" activities by being conveniently located in the center of the park surrounded by shaded seating and open-sun lounging areas. Kinderhaven lets both kids and parents have fun together as they explore the Wyandotte Express choo choo train, a friendly frog, a mammoth turtle and a giant fountain.

Torrent Beach – Challenge the waves on the best beach in Kansas! Whether guests just want to catch some rays, cool off in the surf, or embark on a journey through the canyon of the Torrent River, Torrent Beach is the perfect spot to enjoy a great day.

Torrent Cove - Relax on an island surrounded by the Torrent River and Torrent Beach.

Torrent River – Float the world’s longest tidal wave river which combines a continuous, endless float with ocean-sized waves creating an ever changing experience. Guests enter this attraction without waiting in line! The Torrent River is a signature attraction that can only be experienced at Schlitterbahn.

Wolfpack - Take a tube and surge through an extra-wide pipeline of wild water. This oversized slide provides an experience that is different every time you ride!

Once complete, additional attractions include:

Blitz Falls Tube Chute - Take a fast-flow river ride over to all the action at Torrent Beach and Torrent River.

Kristal Beach – Cool off in the shade along the shore of the Kristal River. This calm beach provides refreshment as riders on the Storm Blaster uphill water coaster fly by overhead.

Kristal River – Relax on an endless, slow-flowing river that provides a restful float on those hot summer days in Kansas.

Raging River Tube Chute - Ride through an exciting series of rapids and channels.

Storm Blaster – Race uphill on a Master Blaster™ water coaster, another signature Schlitterbahn attraction. Storm Blaster combines the up and down thrills of a roller coaster with the unique experience of being propelled upward by jets of water.

Guests can also take advantage of Schlitterbahn’s family amenities such as FREE parking, FREE tubes, FREE life jackets. Guests are also welcome to bring a family picnic basket, excluding alcohol and glass containers, into the park.

Not only do park goers enjoy one-of-a-kind water rides, but they also may experience the Transportainment™ River System that combines the concepts of transportation, sport and entertainment to minimize the time guests spend waiting in lines. Throughout most of the park, visitors may stay in the water and float in tubes to the next attraction through a series of interconnected slides, chutes and rivers with floating queue lines that create a virtually Endless Waterslide™. Guests receive a greater “play value” by replacing time lost walking and waiting in line with more fun time in the water.

Transportainment technology links several attractions including Kristal River, Raging River, Torrent River, Storm Blaster and the Torrent Cove allowing guests to travel from one end of the park to the other without ever leaving the water!

We are just days away from opening the most anticipated new park of 2009! I can't tell you the opening date just yet, but we will have the big announcement this week! For now, here's another peek at the good times to come!
